Geotechnical Engineer | Principal
Donald is one of the 3 major Principal Owners of HWA with over 18 years of experience performing geotechnical site investigations, construction engineering and monitoring, inspection and project management. He has delivered numerous projects that include a broad range of geotechnical services for bridges, roadways, parks, pedestrian and bicycle space, vehicle parking, transportation facilities, railroads and wastewater conveyance systems. Donald has provided geotechnical design services for well over 100 federal, city, and privately funded projects and has extensive knowledge of the WSDOT and FHWA design procedures for road and bridge foundations. His direct experience and creativity have allowed him to develop and design successful and cost-efficient recommendations for slope improvements, pavement restoration, retaining walls, stormwater plans and drainage reports, shallow foundations, signal pole foundations, as well as numerous pedestrian improvements, including sidewalks.
In recent years, Donald’s work on the Fairview Avenue Bridge Replacement has merited the 2022 APWA National Gold Award and the Northgate Pedestrian Bridge was the winner of the 2023 APWA Project of the Year Award for best transportation project with a budget of $25-$75 million.
In addition, Donald currently serves on the APWA Board of Directors, focusing on education and funding opportunities for local agencies.
